How to alert a driver about a problem with their parked car

A parked car can develop a problem while the driver is nowhere nearby. The fastest useful action is often simply getting a factual message to them.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
What to do
- 1Make sure you have the correct registration.
- 2Decide whether the problem is urgent or non-urgent.
- 3For a non-emergency issue, send a private CarAlert describing exactly what you noticed.
- 4If safe, include useful location context in the message without sharing unnecessary personal information.
Important
- Do not touch or enter somebody else's vehicle unless there is a genuine emergency and it is lawful and safe to act.
- Do not exaggerate what you saw.
