A dog or pet appears to be inside a parked car - what should you do?

A pet in a parked vehicle can be completely fine in some circumstances or become a serious welfare emergency in others. The important thing is not to assume that an app notification is enough when an animal may be in danger.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
What to do
- 1Assess the animal and conditions from a safe position.
- 2If you believe there is immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency/animal-welfare authority rather than waiting for a digital alert.
- 3A CarAlert may be used only as an additional attempt to reach a registered owner.
- 4Stay factual about what you observed.
