What to do if a parked car door is open or unlocked

Seeing a parked vehicle with a door visibly open can be awkward: you want to help, but you do not want to interfere with somebody else's property.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
What to do
- 1Check whether someone is obviously loading or unloading nearby.
- 2If the car appears unattended, note the registration and the specific door.
- 3Send a private CarAlert to the owner if the vehicle is registered.
- 4If you suspect an active break-in or immediate danger, contact the appropriate authorities instead of confronting anyone.
