What to do if a car alarm keeps going off

A car alarm sounding repeatedly can be stressful for neighbours, and the owner may have no idea it is happening.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
What to do
- 1Check whether there is an obvious emergency or suspicious activity.
- 2If there is, use the appropriate official route.
- 3For a recurring non-emergency alarm, note the registration and send the owner a CarAlert if possible.
- 4Keep the message factual: when you heard it and whether it has happened repeatedly.

- Do not interfere with the vehicle or alarm system.
- For persistent nuisance, follow relevant local/property-management procedures.
