What information can someone get from an Irish registration plate?

An Irish registration plate is visible in public and identifies the vehicle for official purposes, but that does not mean a passer-by can use it as a public lookup for the owner's name, phone number or email address.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
