Someone damaged my parked car - what should I do?

Finding fresh damage on your parked car is frustrating, particularly when nobody is waiting beside it to explain what happened.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
What to do
- 1Photograph the damage and surrounding area before moving the vehicle if it is safe to do so.
- 2Check for a note, witnesses, nearby CCTV or dashcams.
- 3Record when and where the car was parked.
- 4Contact Gardaí and your insurer where appropriate to the circumstances.
- 5If you are registered with CarAlert, check whether another community member sent you a heads-up.
