Are Irish vehicle registrations personal information?

Whether a registration number is personal data can depend on context and whether it can be linked to an identifiable person. For ordinary CarAlert users, the safer product principle is simple: minimise exposure and do not reveal owner identity or contact details.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
