Parked-car checklist before leaving your vehicle
CarAlert · Published 10 September 2026 · Updated 10 September 2026
A ten-second check before walking away can prevent many of the little problems that lead to a ruined afternoon.
CarAlert exists for exactly this awkward gap: you can see the vehicle and its registration, but you do not know the owner and should not need their personal details just to pass on a useful warning.
What to do
- 1Lights off or in the correct automatic setting.
- 2Windows fully closed if intended.
- 3Doors and boot closed.
- 4No valuables unnecessarily visible.
- 5Parking brake/gear selected appropriately.
- 6Vehicle is within the bay and not blocking access.
- 7Take a quick look at tyres and surroundings.
Important
- Vehicle-specific procedures differ; follow the owner's manual.
- The checklist is practical guidance, not a safety inspection.
